Announced on Indie Retro News:

New release of the Commodore 64 version of 'Spelunky' by Paul Koller and Mikkel Hastrup.

Spelunky is a cave exploration / treasure-hunting game inspired by classic platform games and roguelikes, where the goal is to grab as much treasure from the cave as possible. Every time you play the cave's layout will be different. Use your wits, your reflexes, and the items available to you to survive and go ever deeper! Perhaps at the end you may find what you're looking for...Paul Koller brings you the official Commodore 64 port of Spelunky. You can now play the classic roguelike how it would be intended on the best-selling 8bit computer!

Latest News / Freeze64 Magazine - worth look...
Last post by nuke - Aug 25, 2024, 07:24 AM
I've been back in the Commodore world for a few years now after decades of downtime, and one of the joys that has brought me back to the fold is Vince Mainolfi. This guy is a machine with putting out a really great reading product to the Commodore enthusiast, old and new.

The magazine always features great interviews with the Programming Pros of the past as well as the new stars out there; great game reviews old and new, cheat tips - all the things to help those interested re-engage in the world of Commodore gaming.

You can find Vince out on Facebook - and his website is Freeze64.com

Testing Out an Evolution 64, a Modern Commodore 64 Board

Technology never dies, it just ends up with a smaller, devoted fanbase. Such is certainly the case with the Commodore 64. Retro computing hobbyists are keeping this system alive and developing new replacement parts and upgrades.
Such is the case with the Evolution 64 (or Evo 64) line of products. They have a C64 main board about to come to market that includes a dual SID (Sound Interface Device) capability for improved, stereo sound, better overall reliability, and better video output. They also offer several tube-based(!) audio pre-amp modules, a replacement RF modulator, and other modern replacement parts.
In this video, the 8-Bit Guy gets a hold of the Evo 64 board and a NuTube 64 pre-amp and takes them for a test drive.
Bottom line: At under $300, the Evo64 board is a good option for those looking to upgrade an ailing board, get improved video quality, or to give that case housing an old, dead C64 bread bin a reason to earn its keep. Dave was less convinced that the $500 NuTube preamp module was worth the extra bread.
BTW: This board is strictly: BYOC (bring your own chips — none of the or
iginal C64 chips come with it).

Administrative News / Itchy Butt Forum Relaunched!
Last post by nuke - Aug 20, 2024, 03:10 PM
Hey all,
Happy to announce that I have relaunched the Itchy Butt forum as a result of a move from PHPBB to SMF; intent of this forum is to support the Amiga and Commodore platforms both from technical and software perspectives.

Hoping to see the community use this as another resource moving forward as we continue to keep our Amiga and Commodore platforms thriving!

If there are additional categories desired, please submit feedback (but first, we need users!).
Will slowly build the capability of this system moving forward as I learn more about it.
